Edited listening transcript and translations
This edited bilingual transcript covers the complete substantive lesson, including all four native-speaker voice messages, Lucía’s listening instructions, transitions, study-guide mention and closing. It uses the complete manual Spanish and English captions, checked against the original Spanish automatic captions and actual video frames. The Spanish keeps the speakers’ informal expressions and personal memories; English translations are edited for meaning. Labelled notes clarify factual names and regional pronunciation without replacing the stories. Timestamps are approximate. Music, the brand bumper and nonverbal pauses are omitted.

Si no entiendes audios reales, no podrás tener conversaciones reales.
English: You can understand Spanish when you read it, but when someone sends you a voice message, you listen once, then again… and you don’t understand it. They speak fast, swallow sounds, and your brain freezes. And here is the problem: if you can’t understand real recordings, you won’t be able to have real conversations. In this video, you will train your ear with voice messages from native speakers at their natural speed to improve your understanding.
¿Preparados? Vamos a empezar.
English: Do the following to get the most out of it. First, listen without subtitles. Second, listen again with Spanish subtitles. Finally, listen a third time with English subtitles. This will let you see clearly how much you really understand. You can change the subtitle language in the video settings. Ready? Let’s begin.
0:53 — First message: a childhood trip
Speakers: Lucía, then Paola
English: I’ve asked my friends to tell us which trip they enjoyed most in their lives. You will hear different accents and ways of speaking, and each recording will raise the level a little. Let’s start with the first recording, from my friend Paola, from Madrid. Let’s see what she tells us. Focus on getting the main idea.
English: My best trip was definitely when my father took me, at nine years old, to “Disneyland Orlando.” I loved the trip and the company… We went with some friends of my parents who had a son my age. We enjoyed everything: the shows, the food, seeing the characters, the shows, the… everything. For me, it was a big, wonderful experience. The hotel… was marvelous. I was on cloud nine, and I loved it. It was the best trip of my life.
Learner note — The place name: Paola calls it “Disneyland Orlando” in her message. The official Disney resort near Orlando is Walt Disney World Resort. Her wording is retained as part of her personal recollection. Source: Disney: Walt Disney World near Orlando.
1:48 — Second message: a World Cup trip
Speakers: Lucía, then Álvaro
Spanish: ¿Lo has entendido bien? Atentos.
English: Did you understand it well? Have you listened with and without subtitles? That is the key. Let’s move on to recording number two, from my friend Álvaro, also from Madrid, who was very lucky and went on a really cool trip. This one is a little faster. Pay attention.
English: Once I bought some football boots and won tickets to watch a World Cup match—the World Cup in Russia. I don’t remember which year it was. Anyway, it was a Spain–Portugal match in Russia, and it was spectacular. I wasn’t that keen on the place. I don’t remember the city’s name. I’ll look it up later, because the city seemed very, very European, very… I don’t know, it looked like Benidorm, but in Russia. And it was hot, so it didn’t… it didn’t feel like Russia at all.
O sea, vi a Cristiano Ronaldo y a España.
English: And it was great because I met people and all that. Then the match was spectacular: three–three. Cristiano Ronaldo equalized with a free kick near the end. So I saw Cristiano Ronaldo and Spain. And it was a fantastic football match, too. So… it was really, really, really cool. I had a great time. I ate incredibly well. I loved the Russian food, honestly. And that’s it. I’ve been to Russia, and not many people can say that.
Learner note — The match: Álvaro does not remember the year or city. His description matches Portugal’s 3–3 draw with Spain at the 2018 World Cup, played on 15 June in Sochi, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s late free-kick equalizer. His recollection is retained. Source: FIFA: Portugal–Spain, 2018.
2:57 — Keep listening; a trip to Iceland
Speakers: Lucía, then Carmen
English: It’s fine if you don’t understand absolutely everything: this is gradual. By the way, My Daily Spanish has a free Spanish-learning guide that you can download by scanning this QR code or clicking the link in the video description. It will help you organize your learning and make real progress. Now we’ll raise the level. We are going to hear an Andalusian accent from Seville. Although my friends have softened their accents a little to make them easier to understand, you will notice that some letters disappear. Let’s hear about my sister Carmen’s best trip, which she took this year. I’m dying to do it too.
Learner note — Accent and spelling: “Letters disappear” is an informal way of describing pronunciation. Sounds may be reduced or omitted, while the spelling stays the same. For example, aspiration or loss of syllable-final s occurs in parts of southern Spain and other Spanish-speaking regions; it varies by speaker and context. Source: RAE: regional realizations of s.
English: Hi! Well, my favorite trip was my trip to Iceland. I went with my boyfriend during Easter week, and we stayed eight days and were able to travel around the whole island. Honestly, I was quite cold, but we had clothes for the snow and warm clothing. Most importantly, we had suitable shoes, because otherwise you got wet from all the little streams and waterfalls there were.
English: Among the things I liked most were the black-sand beaches, which were really cool. Then the… the other thing I loved was that everything was… it was a white landscape. Everything was covered in snow, and there were even frozen waterfalls. It was really cool. We were even able to go up onto a glacier, the largest glacier in Europe. Another thing I loved was the animals we could see: seals, lots of reindeer, and also lots of horses and swans. So it was a really cool trip.
Learner note — The glacier description: Carmen does not name the glacier. “The largest glacier in Europe” is retained as her travel description, not an unqualified geographical ranking. The Icelandic Natural Science Institute notes that Vatnajökull is often described this way, while the Severny Island ice cap in the Russian Arctic is larger. The national park describes Vatnajökull as Europe’s largest ice cap by volume, so the measure and geographical scope matter. Source: Icelandic Natural Science Institute: glaciers, Vatnajökull National Park: glacier size.
4:34 — Fourth message: a trip to Laos
Speakers: Lucía, then Iván
Spanish: Ya solo nos queda un audio. Concéntrate para entenderlo bien, bien. Este viaje es una pasada. ¡Qué envidia! Envidia cochina.
English: We have just one recording left. Concentrate so you can understand it really well. This trip is amazing. I’m so jealous! Green with envy. Let’s hear where my friend Iván went on his trip.
English: My favorite trip was to Laos. At that time, I lived in China and had a Romanian friend who was soon going back to her country. So we decided to take a flight to southern China and go to Laos. When we crossed into Laos, our first stop was a city in the middle of the jungle. We left all our luggage in the city and went on a two-day jungle excursion. We discovered new plants, fruits and customs of the people—or tribes—who live in the jungle.
English: Then we went to a city called Vang Vieng, where there is lots of partying and lots of nature too. It was the perfect combination of having fun with people and enjoying nature. There were also lots of adventure activities organized, and caves and lakes where you could swim. Then we went to the capital, and from there we traveled farther south to see temples and take motorbike trips. Honestly, it was a very rewarding experience.
